Capco
Goes International
Capco Crane & Hoist Inc. went
international last year. Capco designed, fabricated and installed 28 bridge
cranes to run on (7) different freestanding runway systems. The bridge
cranes will be used by a manufacturing plant working with fiberglass
products. The plant is located in Juarez, Mexico. The project contained more
than 1,000,000 pounds of steel and took roughly 4 months to complete the
installation. Capco won the project, even though some of the other bidders
had manufacturing facilities in Mexico. Capco's combination of quality,
service, "in house" installation and price were un-beatable. At the
conclusion of the project, Capco sent (3) instructors to train more than 200
Spanish speaking workers and managers on the subject of bridge crane safety
and proper use.
Capco
joins CMAA
Capco Crane & Hoist Inc. became the first New England based crane builder to
join CMAA. Capco was accepted to the CMAA organization last year after a
rigorous approval process. By joining CMAA, Capco became a part of an elite
organization of crane builders in the USA. CMAA member companies make up the
best and the brightest crane builders in the industry.
Since Capco was started we set the standard for building cranes in New
England. Now, with CMAA as a platform we can help influence the next
generation of crane builders all over the USA and beyond. CMAA membership
brings along a responsibility to continue to manufacture bridge cranes of
the absolute highest quality and constantly push our own standards higher
and higher. CMAA membership also provides us "first look" at the latest
information in our industry, whether its new technology or changes in
industry rules and regulations. For example, CMAA has recently published
newly revised specifications including "Spec 78" which applies to properly
servicing and maintaining overhead bridge cranes. Any company with an
overhead bridge crane should get a copy of "Spec 78" and make it required
reading for your maintenance staff. Please consult our office for
information on how to obtain "Spec 78" or any other CMAA publication.
New Crane Specification 78 Now Available from CMAA
The Crane Manufacturers Service Committee (CMSC), a Standing Committee of
the Crane Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA) has released its
newest publication, Specification No. 78, Standards and Guidelines for
Professional Services Performed on Overhead Traveling Cranes and Associated
Hoisting Equipment.
Specification 78 was developed to set standards and guidelines for overhead
traveling crane service and the service of associated hoisting equipment.
The Specification will aid companies in the development of safety-minded,
manufacturer-trained and certified technicians to perform these
high-quality, professional services.
Specification 78 sets higher performance standards in order to meet raised
customer expectations related to the service of overhead traveling cranes
and associated hoisting equipment.
The forty-plus page Specification 78 is available for $30.00 per copy.
Orders for Specification 78 can be placed through the
MHIA Online
Bookstore in the Overhead, Lifting and Movement section or via phone to
the MHIA Literature Department at 800.345.1815/704.676.1190.
CMAA is the Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc., an independent
trade association affiliated with the United States Division of Material
Handling Industry of America. The voluntary association of CMAA members has
existed since 1955. Member companies represent industry leaders in the
overhead crane market. For additional information, contact Hal Vandiver,
Managing Director of CMAA via e-mail

Reputation grows nation wide
Through word of mouth, Capco has recently been asked to get involved with
crane projects in North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Texas
and Florida, to name just a few more states catching the good word.
Capco breaks crane fabrication
record
Recently, out of necessity, Capco completely fabricated (10) 7.5-ton bridge
crane in 10 working days breaking the old "in house" record by 3 cranes. The
aggressive delivery dates facilitated the extreme turnaround times.
Capco is asked to join Concrete
Associations
Due to our relationships with various concrete companies around New
England, we were asked to join two important organizations. We were excited
to become a member of the New England chapter and the national chapter of
the Concrete and Precast associations. We are looking forward to sharing
plenty of important information with each other.
Capco completes major retrofit at
Path in record time
The Port Authority of New Jersey and New York awarded Capco a
contract to completely overhaul (2) 35-ton, 140' span bridge cranes. The
cranes could only be shut down on weekends and returned on Monday at 7:00
AM. Capco completed the complete project in (6) weekends and never
interrupted the shops work schedule. The staff at Path were amazed at the
speed, quality and ease of installation. Plenty of Path references are
available upon request.
Capco develops special crane for
our customers in the Concrete Industry.
Through much research with our customers in the concrete industry,
Capo has developed a very special "Concrete Crane Specification". The
concrete companies that are pouring concrete and stripping forms with bridge
cranes, often comment about breakdowns resulting in lost time and expensive
service calls. With the help of the same companies, we have developed a
"must have" list of optional features (standard for Capco) for any new
bridge crane in a heavy duty concrete application. For more details please
consult our sales department. (Hint: You don't buy a kit to build this type
of crane)
